Padel Overgrips

Perforated, smooth, antibacterial and ergonomic overgrips for every padel racket

PADEL OVERGRIPS: HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT ONE

A padel overgrip is the thin wrap you apply over your racket's original grip. Unlike the base grip which you replace once or twice a year, the overgrip is a consumable you should swap out regularly — roughly every 4 to 8 hours of play depending on how much you sweat.

PERFORATED VS SMOOTH VS THICK VS ANTIBACTERIAL

TypeTackinessAbsorptionBest for
Perforated★★★☆☆★★★★★Heavy sweat, summer play
Smooth (tacky)★★★★★★★☆☆☆Dry hands, control
Thick (comfort)★★★★☆★★★☆☆Cushioning, tennis elbow prevention
Antibacterial★★★★☆★★★★☆Hygiene, odour control

Top tip: in padel, unlike tennis, the handle size is universal. Some players layer two overgrips to thicken the grip and reduce wrist movement — ideal for powerful smashes. Fewer overgrips means more wrist flexibility for spin shots. Find all our advice in the best padel overgrip UK 2026 guide.

WHEN TO CHANGE YOUR OVERGRIP

Is your racket slipping in your hand? Does the grip look shiny and worn? Time to change it. As a rule of thumb, expect to go through 1 overgrip every 3 to 5 matches in summer, and every 2 to 4 weeks in winter. White overgrips tend to last longer visually because coloured pigments can lose their tackiness when exposed to sweat. For a deeper dive, read our guide on how often to change your overgrip.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often should I change my padel overgrip?

Every 5 to 10 hours of play, or roughly every 1 to 2 weeks if you play 2-3 times per week. The signs are clear: the surface goes shiny, tackiness drops, and you can feel the racket shifting in your hand during big shots.

Can I use a tennis overgrip on a padel racket?

Yes. Tennis and padel overgrips are identical. The only difference is the base grip underneath (shorter on padel rackets). A Wilson Pro Overgrip or Babolat VS Grip works perfectly well on either.

Perforated or smooth for sweaty hands?

Perforated, every time. The tiny holes wick moisture away from your palm, keeping the surface drier for longer. Smooth overgrips offer better tackiness when dry but lose grip fast once your hands start sweating. Read the full breakdown in our perforated vs smooth guide.
